ABOUT US
Selen NGO is an non governmental organization created by professional journalists in 2003, believes that freedom of information and freedom of expression are very important aspects of a developing democratic society. The main goals of Selen NGO are: 1. to support and protect the role of mass media professionals in Lori Region 2. to educate aspiring journalists 3. to advocate for vulnerable groups in Lori Region. Our Activities and Methods Selen NGO works toward its goals by holding seminars, providing trainings, hosting a research library, making computer access available, providing internet access, and consultations with professionals. OUR HISTORY Selen NGO has successfully completed the following projects: 1. Conducted research and participant surveys for Parliamentary Election Project. This project was managed by Social, Economic and Legal Reform NGO, and was funded by USAID and Counterpart International. 2. Monitored TV broadcasts for the anti-corruption project which was funded by UNDP United Nations Development Program. 3. Produced TV and radio broadcasts, including news reports on Lori Region for direct broadcasting to SHANT TV in Yerevan. 4. Implemented an anti-smoking education campaign in Lori Region. This included TV and radio broadcasts, seminars in schools, printed literature, production of a short film, and staging of a concert at the Culture Palace in Vanadzor. This project was funded by The Center for Public Dialogue Development. OUR FUTURE PLANS Some of the areas in which we hope to concentrate our efforts in the future are: 1. protection and safety of our parentless children, 2. education campaign on the dangers of human trafficking, 3. promotion of a strong union of mass media professionals in Lori Region, 4. outreach efforts to the vulnerable groups in Lori Region, 5. development of a network of trained advocate volunteers who will be available for consultations to the public.
